Every August for nearly 70 years, in the town of Tereñes (Asturias, Spain), men of all ages have maintained the Fish Festival (La Fiesta del Pez). With ancestral roots and armed with a fishing rod and some firewood, they fish to feed themselves and drink wine in abundance. The tradition of the festival forbids women from participating in the fishing day, which not all are enthusiastic about complying with.
"Many have wanted to come here, but no matter how much they go down to the rocks, they don’t last more than 15 minutes because the men give them a hard time. The proof is that the only woman once found among the rocks was one of the bagpipers and only because she had to play; otherwise, she wouldn’t be there either".
