ISABEL SANGRO
b. 1980 Jeddah, SAUDI ARABIA

Growing up across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, I consider myself both an outsider and an insider in Spain. From a young age, I felt the need to capture my memories through images to carry them with me to the next destination. In 2017, I settled permanently in Madrid. The overarching theme of my work is uprootedness and identity. Interested in human behaviour, I normally work with a relatively wide-angle lens, which allows me to get close to my subjects.
Graduated in Journalism from the Open University of Catalonia, I later studied at EFTI International Center of Photography, and hold a Master's degree in Film Criticism from the ECAM Cinematography and Audiovisual School of Madrid. After working with the multi-award-winning photographer Isabel Muñoz, I became the gallery manager of Leica's premier flagship store in Spain.
I am part of the first virtual exhibition in NFT format within PHotoESPAÑA, the International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts, which constituted a pioneering project in contemporary Spanish photography.
