ISABEL SANGRO

b. 1980, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Based in Madrid, Spain

Asturian by heritage, I grew up between the Middle East, Africa, and Europe—experiences that have shaped my perspective as both an outsider and an insider in Spain. From an early age, I felt compelled to preserve fleeting moments through photography, creating visual memories that accompanied me through each transition.
My work explores themes of uprootedness and identity, often reflecting a deep curiosity about human behavior. I typically shoot with a wide-angle lens, enabling an intimate proximity to my subjects while retaining their context within the surrounding space.
I hold a degree in Journalism, have completed the Professional Photography Course at EFTI, and earned a Master's degree in Film Criticism from ECAM (Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid). After collaborating with acclaimed photographer Isabel Muñoz, I went on to manage Spain’s flagship Leica gallery.
My work was featured in PHotoESPAÑA’s first virtual exhibition in NFT format—a pioneering project in contemporary Spanish photography.
Currently pursuing the PHotoESPAÑA Master’s in Photographic Projects.
